Every year, on the 26th of January whole Indian nation
celebrates Indian Republic Day. Next to the Independence Day (15th of August)
and Gandhi Jayanti (Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, 2nd of October) it is the third
Indian national holiday. This year is the 66th birth anniversary of the Republic
of India. Republic Day commemorates the date when the Constitution of India
came into force on 26 January 1950. By adopting it together with a democratic
government system the country's transition towards becoming an independent republic
was completed.
Annual celebrations of the event include flag hoisting ceremonies and parades
by armed forces and school children in different parts of the country, with
the parades at Rajpath in the capital city, New Delhi, as the most important.
The parade is presided over by the President of India. One of the main significance
of this event is to pay a tribute to the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives
for the country and to honour national heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice
for the freedom, welfare and progress of India. During the event bravery awards
for military persons and other citizens for showing courage in the face of adversity
are presented as well.
Polish Desk of the EuroIndia Centre in Nysa wishes all Indian people and persons
of Indian origin a memorable and happy Republic Day. May your country last forever
in unity and prosperity of its nation making everyone proud of being an Indian.
