"WOMEN OF THE WORLD"
On the 6th of March 2015 at University of Applied Sciencs in
Nysa took place the conference "Women of the World". The event was
organized by Polish Desk of the EuroIndia Centre in Nysa on the occasion of
the International Women's Day. All participants and guest gathered in the assembly
hall of the Regional Centre for Knowledge and Technology Transfer in Nysa. Conference
was conducted in the English language.
The position of woman in various cultures always has been
extremely interesting, valid and controversial topic. We had a pleasure and
honour to host many eminent guest, who gave speeches concerning situation and
role of woman in their cultures:
- Mr Mandar Shrikrishna Purandare from India, born in Pune,
Maharashtra In India, currently lives in Poznań and works at Adam Mickiewiecz
University in Poznań as Native Speaker (Lektor) for Hindi language. Mr Purandare
was a teacher of German language at some institutes in Pune and Hyderabad.
He is a musician and actor of Teatr Nowy in Poznań as well;
- Mrs Komal Sanam Bojwani from India, a multi faceted personality
who has adorned various roles as an educator, entrepreneur and corporate personnel.
Having specialised in Business Management from India, Mrs Bojwani spent early
years in the corporate world in Warsaw interlaced with short stints in education
and then setting up her own alternative education stream in Warsaw under the
Nyaya Academy banner. Spouse to a respected Warsaw business man Manoj Bojwani;
- Ms. Vivian Wangui Ngugi from Kenya, a bachelors degree
holder in the field of education and a teacher by profession. Next year she
will finish a master degree in commonwealth youth development work. Ms. Ngugi
was a volunteer in Kenya and cooperated with the Kenya Girls Guides Association.
Currently she is a volunteer of Europejskie Forum Młodzieży (EFM);
- Ms. Maria Victoria Margarita Reyes Alvarado from Mexico,
graduated Psychology from the University of Coahuila, and have been working
in educational psychology for around 5 years focus mainly in kindergarten
and primary school students with disabilities, learning difficulties, psychological
disorders or over-standard skills. Currently Ms. Alvarado is volunteer at
EFM;
- Ms. Cristiana Milhoes from Portugal, graduated in Management
from Aveiro's University, she was a part of the initial team of the project
"Óbidos, a literary village", opening almost 11 bookshops in a small
town. The last Summer she did her first international volunteer program in
Cabo Verde (Boa Vista Island) and shortly after she came to Poland. Currently
she is a volunteer in EFM;
- Ms. Nguyen Kim Oanh from Vietnam, she got a Bachelor degree
of English Teaching Methodology at English Department of Vietnam National
University - Hanoi University of Languages and International Studies and Master
degree in Linguistics. Former liaison officer for the World IT Forum 2009
in Vietnam and Educational Coordinator of EDUCAP. Currently she is lecturer
at Vietnam National University of Civil Engineering and cooperates as a volunteer
at EFM;
Rich artistic programme was a part of the conference as well. All participants
and guest could admire beautiful Indian dance performances of Chameli
Dance Group from Krakow.
The conference ended with screening of the short documentary, titled "India's
Missing Girls", directed by Ashok Prasad. The film shows a sad and cruel
praxis of aborting female children in India.
The event met with great interest of Nysa's inhabitants. Apart from our university
students and academic teachers, pupils of Nysa's middle and secondary schools
with their teachers took part in the conference as well. We are sure that participating
in the event and getting an opportunity to meet and listen to many interesting
people was a valuable experience for all guests. It was also a chance to see
many different aspects of women's situation in various parts of the world.
