1. QUALIFICATIONS GRANTED (PROFESSIONAL DEGREES)

The Section of English Studies offers a three-year undergraduate programme, with two semesters in each year: winter and summer. After completing the full programme, graduates obtain a BA in English Studies (licencjat filologii angielskiej). Currently, students are offered English Teaching specialisation.

English Studies, English Teaching Specialisation (start year: 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017). The programme includes a set of psychological-pedagogical courses that prepare students for work as teachers at educational institutions, in particular Polish state schools. Students receive a general philological education, which is indispensable for those graduates who wish to start a career in teaching as well as those who wish to go on to enter MA degree programme at other universities.

2. ADMISSION

Candidates for English Studies who have taken a secondary school-leaving exam (matura) under 'new' regulations are admitted in the course of the secondary school certificate contest. Candidates who have obtained the above certificate under the 'old' regulations are admitted following the calculation of the final score based on all the subjects listed on the certificate.

3. PROFESSIONAL AND ACADEMIC AIMS

English Studies. One of the main goals of the programme is to provide students with general philological education. This goal is pursued by a set of linguistic, cultural, and literature courses. Graduates of English Studies have advanced linguistic skills at least at the level of C1 (according to CEFR). They are able to perform a critical analysis of a variety of texts, including general, specialised, and literary ones.

Graduates of English Teaching Specialisation acquire qualifications to teach English in primary schools and pre-schools according to the ministerial standards of education. They have the skills and the knowledge necessary to manage a teaching process, and to understand a child development process.

4. FURTHER EDUCATION PROSPECTS

The curriculum enables graduates to continue the education at MA level at universities in Poland as well as abroad at the faculty of English Studies or Applied Linguistics.

6. FINAL EXAM PROCEDURE

In order to obtain the bachelor's degree, students are obliged to complete all the courses covered by the curriculum, to submit a diploma thesis, which is later assessed and reviewed, and to pass the final bachelor's exam.

7. PRINCIPLES, METHODS OF GRADING AND EXAMINATION

A semester is completed after obtaining at least a satisfactory grade in all subjects covered by the curriculum. The grades used at the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa are as follows: Very good ('5.0'), Good plus ('4.5'), Good ('4.0'), Satisfactory plus ('3.5'), Satisfactory ('3.0'), Unsatisfactory ('2.0').
