INFORMATION PACKAGE ECTS 2012/2013

1. Granting qualifications (professional degrees)

Graduates of the faculty of German Philology obtain the bachelor's degree, having completed a 3-year program (6 semesters). Currently, students are offered the following specializations:

German Philology, Specialization in German teaching: Graduates have general knowledge of German philology. They can enter MA degree programs in German Philology at other universities and/or work as interpreters. They are qualified to work as teachers of German at Polish state and private schools and as interpreters in companies.

German Philology, Specialization in German and History teaching (with German as a main and History as an extra field of study) (start year: 2010-2011): Equipped with general knowledge of German Philology and History, graduates can continue the education by enrolling on MA courses in German Philology at other universities. They are qualified to work as teachers at Polish state and private schools and as interpreters in companies.

2. Admission requirements to a given studies programme

Candidates who have taken a secondary school-leaving exam under 'new' regulations are admitted in the course of the secondary school certificate contest. In other words, they do not take the entry exam. Other candidates, i.e. those who have taken the above exam under the 'old' regulations, are admitted following a two-step procedure: the oral exam and the certificate contest.

3.Professional and academic prerequisites of studies' curriculum

German Philology, Specialization in German teaching: The goal of the curriculum is to provide students with the knowledge of German philology so as to enable them to continue their education at MA level. Our school graduates are qualified to teach German at Polish state and private schools. The specialization offered aims to prepare students for interpretation work as well.

German Philology, Specialization in German and History teaching (with German as a main and History as an extra field of study) (start year: 2011-2012): The students who take this specialization are prepared to teach two subjects. Apart from German, they study History, which is the extra subject they can teach at schools. The goal of the curriculum is to provide students with the knowledge of German philology so as to enable them to continue the education at MA level. The specialization offered aims to prepare students for interpretation work as well.

4. Further education prospects

The curriculum enables future graduates to continue the education at MA level at universities in Poland as well as abroad at the faculty of German Philology.

6. Final exam procedure

In order to obtain the bachelor's degree, students are obliged to complete all the courses covered by the curriculum, to submit a diploma thesis, which is later assessed and reviewed, and to pass a final bachelor's exam.

7. Principles, methods of grading and examination

A semester is completed after obtaining at least a satisfactory grade in all subjects covered by the curriculum. The grades used at the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa are as follows: Very good ('5.0'), Good plus ('4.5'), Good ('4.0'), Satisfactory plus ('3.5'), Satisfactory ('3.0'), Unsatisfactory ('2.0').
